Apple Pickin’ Jamboree

2012 Apple Pikin' Jamboree Will be Announced in the Fall

Saturday, October 1, 2011

8am until Noon

Come glean with us at the Annual Apple Pickin' Jamboree

at Virginia orchards in the Bedford, Lynchburg, and Roanoke

areas, and northward along the I-81 corridor.

On October 1, hundreds of volunteers will gather at 8am in selected orchards to salvage thousands of pounds of apples that would otherwise go to waste. The gleaned fruit will be donated to local food banks and other feeding agencies, such as The Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army.

Groups of all sizes and people of all ages are invited to spend 3-4 hours in the fields. Gleaning is a wonderful family opportunity. If children are involved, good adult supervision is needed. Expect to do some bending and lifting.
