My Savior
Read: Matthew 27:45-54
When I was a child, Good Friday was truly “God’s Friday.” It encompassed
everything that the season of Lent was all about. It began at noon, when
three hours of silence started. The time was devoted to prayer and
meditation, thinking about Jesus slowly suffering. That suffering was
because of ME, a sinner, yet He did that over millennia before I was
born! At three in the afternoon, I would be at church and services would
start. The readings and rituals recounted Jesus’ journey to the cross.
The end of the service was when the altar was stripped and many things
were covered. The candles and sanctuary light were extinguished. This
brought out very clearly to me that Jesus died both for and because of
ME! He took the burden that I could never bear. Although every day
should begin with those very thoughts, Good Friday was always that
special day that gave me a profound sense of what and who Jesus is - my
savior. No, even more than that, my PERSONAL SAVIOR! The centurion
remarked at Jesus’ death that “He was the Son of God.” He did not know
what we know today, that although Jesus died that day, He would be
resurrected. In that resurrection, “was” became “is”, and I rejoice in
that.
Prayer:
God, let us always remember the suffering and death and the
resurrection of your Son, Jesus. Through the sacrifice offered for us
and because of us, we will have the opportunity to live with You,
forever, if only we believe. Amen

During this Holy season of Lent, we
pray that these devotions have been an instrument to guide you in your
spiritual journey. As Easter people, we have the joy of knowing Christ
as our resurrected Savior. Please prayerfully consider joining with us
in fasting for one meal during these last few days of Lent. This
spiritual discipline of fasting is an opportunity to be one with God in
reflection and prayer. We invite you to use the money you would have
spent on lunch and join with the Society of St. Andrew in feeding our
hungry brothers and sisters. We have provided a link below so that you
can easily and securely make your donation. At 2˘ a serving, with the
Society of St. Andrew, a $5 donation will provide 2,500 servings of
food. We wish for you a joyous and blessed Resurrection Day. |
