Hunger Day
Observed the first Tuesday of June each year, National Hunger Awareness Day
is a public awareness initiative to help inform individuals, communities,
corporations, and policy makers that hunger is a severe domestic issue but
a solvable one as well.
The Society of St. Andrew is proud to be a sponsor of National Hunger
Awareness Day. We invite your church to have a special worship
service in conjunction with National Hunger Awareness Day at a time
convenient to your congregation. More information, along with some worship
resources, is available at this
website.
In addition, please consider the following ways your church can observe
the day:
-
Pray for our nation’s hungry people.
-
Promote a fast on National Hunger Awareness Day. As you fast
remember those who are hungry. Donate the money that would have been
spent on a meal to the Society of St. Andrew or other hunger-relief
ministries of your choice.
-
Organize a hunger-fighting group of volunteers. The Society of St.
Andrew coordinates gleanings in many areas of the country. Call us for
suggestions in your area.
-
Join Bread for the World’s 2005 Offering of Letters, “Make Hunger
History.” Information is available on their website.
