New Mexico
The Society of St. Andrew has delivered over 390,000
pounds of salvaged potatoes and other food to the needy in the state of
New Mexico through the Potato Project. This has resulted in approximately 1.2
million servings of food going to New Mexico's hungry.
Gleaning in New Mexico:
We operate a gleaning office in Las Cruces,
New Mexico. While gleaning operations are generally conducted in the area
shown on the map below, the New Mexico gleaning office is responsible
for salvaging food for the hungry across the state.
Gleaning in New Mexico takes place year-round
as long as the weather cooperates. Most gleaning events take place on
weekends where gleaners arrive in the fields around 8:00 a.m. and are on
their way home by noon. The Society of St. Andrew's gleaning coordinator
makes all arrangements with farmers and for produce containers and food
distribution.
