Gleaning America's Fields ~ Feeding America's Hungry

Vacation Bible School

Mission Project

Vacation Bible School provides a wonderful opportunity to teach young people about the importance of mission. The Society of St. Andrew invites you to challenge your Vacation Bible School students to fight hunger by participating in our VBS mission project.

Using our free* material, each VBS student will learn about hunger in America and how Jesus expects his followers to do something about it. Through scripture lessons and activity sheets, they will learn how even children can help in the fight against hunger.

Each VBS that contributes $50 or more will be awarded a certificate.

We provide to your Vacation Bible School the following:

  • Reproducible age-appropriate worksheets designed to introduce children to hunger and poverty issues from a Biblical perspective and to teach them about the ministries of the Society of St. Andrew.

  • Colorful stickers for each participant.

  • Instructions for administering the program.

*PLEASE NOTE: Our VBS Mission Project material is provided free of charge to Vacation Bible Schools and others who covenant with us to donate to our ministry through this program.

2013 VBS Mission Program:

"Superheroes of the Faith"

This program is designed to be used either as a stand-alone program or as a mission emphasis to compliment your church’s Vacation Bible School program.

Each day your students will be introduced to a different biblical character who did amazing things for God. Superheroes of the Faithis a complete VBS program that includes a Bible story, and related game, craft, snack, and music ideas. In addition, each day your VBS students will meet a modern-day superhero who is doing great things for God’s Kingdom and your students will learn how they can use their hands to help feed God’s hungry children.

Besides the fun and educational aspects of this mission project, the goal for each VBS is to raise enough money, through student offerings, for 1,000 pounds of fresh produce to end up on the plates of hungry children and adults. At 6¢ cents a pound, that’s a goal of $60. The fresh food will be donated by SoSA to feeding agencies across the nation to feed hungry children and adults. Because SoSA is such an economical ministry, we can provide all of this food for about 6¢ a pound! It’s a simple, effective way to obey Jesus’ command to feed the hungry while being good stewards of our nation’s abundance.

All materials are free and available now. There is no obligation. You can order your materials using the form below, or contact The Rev. Jennifer Vestal Moore at 800-333-4597; email church@endhunger.org.
